Well marked DOC course. There are a couple of places where the track veers off, just make sure you look for the markers and follow these. Due to slips a couple of spots along the trail are narrow, there are 'Danger" signs approaching these areas so you are aware of them. One short hill climb that is quite steep, lots of pines here to hold on to and roots to place feet on in need. Be aware of wasps up nearer the hut, lots of them on the beech trees.

There is a waterfall you can veer off to: Whispering Falls. Great views of the river along the run. Some good birdlife in the area. Heard a kea calling and had a robin come and sit with us when resting while out on the trail

Parking is close to start of trail. Good amount of parking available

Easy.

There are a couple of part of the track that have been redone due to slips. Just be aware to look for markers and you will be fine.

Non-existent.

Waterproof leggings, Lightweight fleece top, Short-sleeved thermal top, Long-sleeved thermal top, Seam-sealed waterproof jacket, Windproof jacket, Gloves, Beanie/thermal headwear, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map, Gaiters.

There are places you can get down to the river to drink from. I would suggest taking own in with you.

Could be very muddy after rain in some places, no river crossing to the hut so won't affect this. Grass can get high during spring/summer so if get hayfever, take your meds with you. Wasps!!!!! Lots of them.

Some rocky areas on trail that will have to watch foot placement so don't roll ankle.

Great run. As Katie says, lots of options to extend. If it is super hot you can skip the last 500m very steep climb to Hacket Hut, and "stream bash" instead. At the sign where the path branches to Hacket (straight ahead) 500m, and Browning (left), head towards Browning Hut. Then when you hit the stream, turn upstream and follow it until you reach the hut. It's a nice little adventure, and helps you to cool off! (Wouldn't recommend this unless you are very familiar with the area)This track is dog friendly if you get a permit from DOC (it's free!).

Beautiful run, very little sun hits the track in the morning so good for a Summer run or stunning in Winter skipping over the icy puddles and admiring the snowy mountains, as you do.

This is a beautiful run, with lots of scope to extend it too - either through the beech to Browns Hut, or up a steep climb to Starveall. Don't leave without a swim in the river at the end! NB if your foolish 30kg dog breaks his leg by Browns Hut it's a long hot walk out with him on your shoulders... ;)
