A nice little coastal loop travelling in the reverse direction to the Tiromoana loop (down a long grassy trail and back up on hardpack gravel).
There is a sign in the carpark with a little free paper map in a plastic rack of the trails for you to take on your journey. There are a lot of little little trails leading off for the main trail but these are all clearly labelled.
Head out onto the trail from the carpark and turn right at the sign for "Te Ara Tawhai trail" and through the little gate in the ringlock fence. Head down the mowed path and keep going until you see the right hand link to the Ella Peak trail. This will give runners a nice peak to bag and an awesome view of the coast.
Turn back down the Ella Peak trail and onto the Tiromoana Bush track before turning off on the Beach track, weave through the beautiful native coastal bush beside a creek and out onto a stunning private little beach. Turn and head back up the beach track and back out onto the loop track which is a nice grunty uphill invigorating trail back to the carpark.
This trail includes the peak Ella.
Regeneration of coastal forest, beautiful beach and the view from Ella Peak is stunning.
There is the occasional long drops dotted along the trail.
No public transport, but the Mt Cass road is suitable for all cars, and becomes gravel after approx 4km, there are some forestry operations in the area, but they do not operate on weekends. Plenty of parking at the carpark at the trailhead.
