The isle of Lewis and Harris is an enchanting an spectacularly wild place. This 7.5k circuit takes you from the white sand of Eoropie Beach to the famous towering lighthouse and the Butt of Lewis and back.
From the carpark follow the trail through the gate and across the dunes to the main beach area. Pick up the marked trail as it goes past the monumnent for tragically lost sailors. Follow the wooden marker posts north around a variety of beaches, high sea cliffs and across what seems like the edge of the end of the world all the way to the towering lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis. Do take care around some of the cliff edges, theres lots of active erosion going on.
Soak up the views before returning to the beginning on the narrow public road that runs between the light and Ness. Be sure to stop and take in the breathtaking cove and beach part way back at Port Stoth. This is a wildly beautiful spot and is a very popular swimming spot.
Amazing beaches and the historic Butt of Lewis lighthouse, built in 1862 by David Stevenson, brother of Robert Louis.
There is a toilet at the start/ finish
Parking is available at the Eoropie beach entrance by the kids playground There is a bus from Stornaway that services Ness and its surrounds very well.
