From the carpark, cross the bridge heading towards the cottages. Take the path to the left of the cottages, cross the railway track and head up the obvious track. Ignore the first track on the right, continuing on the lower track to cross a small stream. When the track splits, take the right hand fork, heading uphill towards the summit of Geal-charn. The path becomes boggier as you ascend. Continue in a southwest direction towards a cairn at the top of the hill. The summit is approximately 500m further southwest.
From the summit of Geal-charn, head southwest, then south along a faint path down the ridge to the bealach (pass). Shortly after the bealach, take the narrow path that tends southeast / east up the slope on the left. When you have climbed to the top of the ridge, turn left (northeast) and head towards the cairn at the summit of A’Mharconaich (approx. 500m away).
From the summit, retrace your steps along the grassy ridge and then continue in a southwest direction on an indistinct path as the ridge drops down. Follow the path as it rises in a southerly, then westerly direction. There are old, rusty fence posts to lead you southwest over the wide grass-covered plateau to the summit of Beinn Udlamain (marked by a large rocky cairn).
From Beinn Udlamain, continue south down the broad ridge a distance of about 600m. Before the ridge flattens out a small path leads down left from a rocky area and joins a small burn (stream). The ground from here is quite boggy, and the path becomes indistinct. Cross the main stream valley well below the saddle. Then, to avoid the worst of the boggy ground pick up a small path heading east. The path tends more northeast ending on top of a broad ridge. Head southeast keeping to the high ground and pick up a path once you have climbed onto the summit ridge of Sgaireach Mhor.
From the trig pillar of Sgaireach Mhor, turn east to pick up a path heading down the ridge. Beware of the steep cliffs just to your left when leaving the summit. Follow the ridge path and cross a boggy saddle, then take a small path which traverses the left side of a knoll. This path widens into a very boggy 4WD track that leads to a bridge at the bottom of the valley. Cross the bridge and turn right onto the 4WD track, towards the A9 (road). Continue on this path and go through the railway underpass before heading north along the paved cycle track for the final 4km.
This 4km runs parallel to the busy A9 road and it can be avoided if you have a vehicle shuttle / drop off.
This trail includes the peaks Beinn Udlamain, Sgairneach Mhor and A' Mharconaich.
