Situated in stunning, coastal surrounds, the Lighthouse Keeper's house at Cape Brett has been converted into a hut. This is a serviced 23-bunk hut in the Bay of Islands area. The hut must be booked online in advance.

About this hut

Facilities and services

Cooking: 3 x 2 burner units. Gas is provided. 

Drinking water is provided at the hut.

Rules

No camping.

No dogs. Cape Brett Hut is located in Manawahuna Scenic Reserve. To protect native wildlife, dogs are not allowed.

  • Adult (18+ years): $28 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $14 per night

Weekdays:

  • Adult (18+ years): $32 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $16 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Weekends:

  • Adult (18+ years): $34 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $17 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

1 December - 29 February

Weekdays:

  • Adult (18+ years): $36 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $18 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Weekends:

  • Adult (18+ years): $38 per night
  • Child/youth (5–17 years): $19 per night
  • Infant (0–4 years): free

Hut tickets cannot be used at this hut.

Backcountry Hut Passes can be used at this hut. Passes can be used unlimited for a 6 or 12 month period for most Serviced and Standard huts.

Track fees

A significant portion of the track, between Rawhiti and Deep Water Cove, crosses private land. All trampers must pay a fee that is used to maintain this section of the track. Fees are:

  • Adult (18+): $50   
  • Child/Youth (5-17): $20
  • Infant (0-4): $0

There is no charge for the section of track that is on public land between Deep Water Cove and Cape Brett.

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027.

  • If no availability shows online for your dates, the hut is fully booked.
  • No spaces are kept for visitors arriving without a booking.
  • Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
  • Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.
