About the Challenge:

Challenge yourself to Auckland’s toughest Ultramarathon!

The 2025 Hunua Hillbilly, on Saturday, March 15th includes the all-new 42km Trail marathon and 22km Run/Walk options.

Come and join a beautifully brutal trail journey through the Hunua Ranges’ stunning native bush and experience an event like no other!

Tackle the original 60km Ultramarathon, a course which demands some serious respect! Or take on the all new Marathon or 22km course options which still deliver a fair share of challenge of their own, plus plenty single trail bliss!

Make a whole weekend of it with camping options, post event dinner and the Hunua Hillbilly Hoedown. This promises to be a very special event with very limited numbers.

Here's where this challenge can help - it will motivate you to run the trails, and the more grunty the trail, the more points you score - and you could win a free entry to the event!

Complete any trail from our trail running directory during the three month challenge period and you're earning points on the leaderboard. Simple.

How to earn Challenge Points:

• Each time you complete a qualifying run you will earn points equivalent to the Grunt Factor of that run e.g. complete a run with a Grunt Factor of 27 and you earn 27 points
• Repeat runs over the same trail are all good - e.g. completing that same Grunt Factor 27 run three times during the Challenge will earn you 27 x 3 = 81 Challenge Pts
