Description
The route is well marked single trail and easily followed.
You will start out from the gate following a gravel road into farm and dirt road, passing a farm hut and then a shearing shed through an open area of pasture.
Trail markers point the way but you proceed straight through this area, although there is a branch of farm road to the right. You're then onto more basic 4WD/tractor road but still in farmland for a while longer - this is a trail that starting out you wonder what you've got yourself in for, but patience is rewarded once you get onto the rich single track in bush. In the farmland section, you'll pass Rerekapa Falls, and then eventually you come to the Rerekapa Track proper, winding through the natural bush in proximity to the river.
Eventually, there is a bridge to your right leading to a hut and longdrop. The route does not formally lead this way, but it is a short detour if you wish to make it.
Proceeding on through the bush you will eventually come to a section of long climbing but with the reward of being in the lovely bush and getting to enjoy the eventual elevation, before dropping down the other side.
You will eventually come onto the flat and emerge out into farmland. You can either follow the fenceline to your left and jump the small creek, or angle slightly to the right to find a wood plank crossing, then proceed up to the farm dirt 4WD track.
Following this to the right will bring you to the Kiwi Road end of the track, then you turn around and make your way back.

Features of interest
The route follows the Rerekapa Track past Rerekapa Falls, although these are lot less substantial than the towering Mt Damper Falls a short way to the north.

Access
This is remote! Access to the designated start point is from The Forgotten Highway, SH43 turning onto Moki Road and then onto Mangapapa. Mangapapa Road crosses the Waitara river before bending sharp right, at this bend the track access is on your left.
You can also access this area from SH3 at Ahiti, following the signs for Mt Damper then on past Mt Damper. That route includes sections of gravel road.
From the SH3 direction there is also the option of following Kiwi Road to approach this out-and-back trail from the other end. Note though that while Kiwi Road is clearly marked on maps, it is a basic single-carriage gravel road. I did not continue the length of it.
At the Mangapapa Road end, park near the main road at the top of the gravel farm road down the hill. There is reasonable space down the hill to park, however, this is also an entrance to a working farm keep clear of that gate, and it's a very short walk from the road down to the gate which is the formal start point.
