Starts at the Lauder Station area on the Central Otago rail trail. You then follow the trail all the way to Auripo Station which is located in the Ida Valley. On the journey there it is slightly uphill, but a nice easy gradient. You travel through all the best parts of the rail trail, viaducts and tunnels!
Once at Auripo, trun around and head back appreciating the views and sights all over again, finishing up back at Lauder Station.

So much to see!
Manuherikia Bridge, Poolburn Tunnel No.1, Poolburn Tunnel No.2, Poolburn Viaduct.
Many relics from the history surrounding the Rail Trail.

Parking is available right beside the start at the Lauder 'Station' on the Central Otago Rail Trail.

Good part of the trail. Maybe bring a torch for the tunnels or adjust your eyes before entering. Took my dog on this run.

Arguably the best part of the Otago Rail Trail. Easy run with wonderful scenery. You may even spot native falcons if lucky.
