Starting from the main carpark, head up the driveway alongside the house and past the stables. At the covered seating area, turn right and zig zag down to the wetlands on the Wetland Loop track.

Run along the boardwalks around the outside of the wetlands until you reach a gate on your right in the predator proof fence. At the top turn right onto the Twin Ponga Loop, then right again onto the Ratanui Track to Ratanui (one of NZ's largest northern rata trees).

Take Moore's Ride to the right of the tree, which takes you out to the fenceline. Turn left at the fence and follow the Fenceline Track until you reach the lookout, where the track turns down the hill (becoming the Kapiti Track.

Follow this down to the PP Fence, cross the driveway, and pick up the Kauri Track back to the homestead.

Bushy Park is a forest sanctuary/mainland predator-free island. It is an example of relatively unmodified lowland forest and home to robins, saddlebacks, and hihi, plus lizards. The big drawcard is really the number of birds you'll hear and see!

If you know of any public toilets near the trail start or on the route, please login and then let us know so we can update this section.

Good carparking area below the homestead. No public transport available. Predator proof gates are present on the driveway.

Easy.

All the tracks are well signposted and generally well formed. Don't follow ground trails that have pink tape as these are traplines. The entire area is surrounded by Predator Proof Fence, so you can't stray too far.

Patchy.

Whistle, First aid kit, Survival blanket, Cellphone, Map

Water available at toilet block near the start.
