One for the mild things, this route follows the City to Sea Pathway, a paved walkway/cycleway extending from central Christchurch to the Pacific Ocean.
Join the asphalt pathway on Fitzgerald Ave and follow it to Kerrs Reach. There are several adjoining paths and old roads leading off the trail, but just keep following the main pathway, crossing the river at the Medway bridge. The path then meanders through the red zone, crossing the Ōtākaro-Avon twice more over new footbridges.
When you get to Kerrs Reach, turn around at the rowing club and retrace your steps back to the start.
