Kaiate Falls is a breathtaking cascade of waterfalls located just a short 10-minute drive from Welcome Bay and approximately 15 minutes from Papamoa.

The trail is super easy to follow with lots of signs, and there's one obvious path to take from the car park. Just start on that path and hang a right at the end of the stairs.

The loop track spans about 1km and begins with a majestic 25-meter waterfall overlooking the trail. As you descend down a winding path of stairs into the lush, jungle-like bush, you can't help but feel the thrill of adventure coursing through your veins.

Be cautious on the slippery clay terrain as you make your way to the bottom of the first waterfall, where a wooden staircase will lead you to the riverbed rocks below. From there, the track meanders along the rocks, guiding you with ropes and bridges, until you reach another stunning 15-meter waterfall perfect for a refreshing swim.

Always remember to check the water quality before diving in. After enjoying a dip, follow the jungle path on the opposite side of the bridge for a challenging 90-meter stair climb that will bring you back to where you began.

This exhilarating run is perfect for those new to trail running, as well as for adventurous kids. If you're looking to make it longer, simply loop back around and do it all over again. Get ready to be swept away by the beauty and excitement of Kaiate Falls!

The trail features numerous cascading waterfalls, some towering as high as 25 meters, creating a mesmerizing sight to behold. Lush native bush surrounds the path, offering a peaceful and picturesque setting for hikers to enjoy. Additionally, the trail includes opportunities for rock hopping and traversing bridges, adding an element of excitement and adventure to the journey.

There is a lack of potable drinking water on site, and it is strongly advised against consuming water from the stream.

During the spring season, it is important to exercise caution while traversing rocky areas, as algae may accumulate on the surfaces, rendering them slippery. Following rainfall, particularly in winter, pathways may become slick due to the clay composition. Additionally, the winter months are prone to occasional flooding of bridges due to increased water levels.

The primary risk stems from the clay trail surface, which can become muddy and slippery even in the absence of rain, particularly in shaded areas. Caution is advised in such sections. The terrain is uneven, with some parts eroded, necessitating careful navigation by runners. Additionally, running alongside water poses a hazard. It is important to assess the water quality before swimming to avoid potential health concerns.
