Starting at the Eurobin picnic area in Mt Buffalo National Park, you will start climbing almost immediately up beautiful Aussie single track, surrounded by gumtrees, and trying to avoid the square wombat poos on the trail. You climb 300m in the first couple of km before joining a ridgeline fire trail/ 4wd track.

At the 2.5km mark, you will meet the Mt Buffalo access road, which you follow for 100m or so before crossing it and continuing your steady climb. You then sidle along the southern slopes for a km with some great views to the South and East, before crossing the road again at 3.5km.

You've now got a sweet flatter section along a broad ridge to up your speed as you slowly climb. You'll cross the road again before hitting some steeper switchbacks and you start running across some immense granite slabs, while gaining altitude quickly.

At the 8km point it starts to ease off as you hit the plateau area at the top. It's worth taking the detour to some of the lookout points, including the ones above some of Australia's tallest rock faces. As a bonus, you may see some rock climbers enjoying themselves on the vertical granite.

At 10km you cross a steep gully with an amazing waterfall before the final 500m to the Chalet. If you are lucky enough, you've arranged for someone to pick you up here, otherwise, turnaround and smash your quads on the downhill.

The track is well signposted as "The Big Walk", and is lovely single track with a few lumpy rock sections that dodgy ankles won't like.

You are heading up into an alpine environment, so expect to cool down fast at the top, and bring appropriate warm and waterproof gear.

Yep, check for big spiders under the seat.

Parking available in the picnic area.
