Start at the Kingston Foreshore at the very bottom of Giles Street. For an anti-clockwise loop, head South East towards the Eyre Street bridge. Turn left, cross the bridge and follow Eyre Street for one block, then keep going straight down a bike path to an old road that runs next to the Jerrabomberra Wetland. The road turns into a bike path and winds to the left through the wetland, then eventually reaches the Wetland carpark on Dairy Road.
Turn left and keep following the bike path that runs alongside the old Dairy Road. During spring watch out for magpies! Eventually you will cross the Molonglo river, then take a left and follow the bike path as it heads in between the river and the busy Morshead Drive through the Molonglo Reach District Park.
Take a right up the hill just before Clare Holland house and keep to the bike path through Grevillea Park and underneath Kings Bridge. Follow the curving path up and over Kings Bridge and admire the views of many Canberra landmarks. At the end of the bridge, follow the bike path to the right and back under the Kings Bridge for the final stretch back to Kingston Foreshore. Pass On Lake cafe in Bowen Park and then in front of the first stretch of apartments. Make sure you don't cross the bridge to Kingston Foreshore's island but instead follow the path along the front of the cafes and restaurants in Kingston Foreshore back to the start point.
Lake Burley Griffin was artificially created in 1964, which led to creating the Jerrabomberra Wetlands which now hosts over 170 different bird species. The route traces around the East Basin of the lake and cuts through the wetlands.
Available in Kingston Foreshore near the start point, and at Molonglo Reach and Bowen Park along the route.
There is a big parking space behind the Canberra Glassworks just off Eastlake Parade. There are also a number of parking areas in the various parks along the route if you choose a different start and end point. A regular bus service goes along Wentworth Avenue, two blocks from the start point.
