From any of the Piha carparks run to the south end of the beach. At the end of the carpark (Cul de sac) you'll find the start of the Lookout Track. Head up the narrow track and follow it for about 1km through to a grassy clearing - 'the gap'. From here go straight and up the gravel road where you'll knock off 1.5km and 160m of climbing. Once you hit Piha Road keep climbing (take care of the cars) until you hit Te Ahuahu Road (your first right going up the hill). Run this road to the Mercer bay carpark. From here you'll find well sign posted markers over to Karekare, the track is well formed with plenty of stairs. Once you reach Karekare cross the bridge and head down to the far side of the beach to explore or check out Karekare Falls before turning around and heading home.
