Description

Follow the Opanuku Pipline track for 1 and a bit kilometres.
Go left down Christian Road for 500 metres past the Filter station until the sign for Filter Track on your left.
Follow Filter Track up and over - 300 metres elevation means this will be mostly a walk. Enjoy the view of Auckland City from the top of the hill.
Once you have reached the end of Filter Track, turn left and run up Scenic Drive till the Waitakere Dam entrance on the right hand side.
Waitakere Dam Acess Road is paved but you can run on the grass. About 1.2km down there is a path on the right hand side that has good views of the Cascade Valley.

Take the stairs on the right hand side of the Dam to Waitakere Tramline Track. Follow the tracks for 2km till the junction with Anderson Track. Optionally just before the junction you can follow the pink tags to check out the old timber dam- a 10 minute side journey. Turn right onto Anderson Track and follow it till the next junction, which you turn right again which takes you up to Scenic Drive.

Cross Scenic Drive and take the Peripatus track until the junction with the Swanson Pipleine. Optionally here you can go left and run the Swanson pipeline track there and back - or take a right turn and follow it till Christian Road. Go past the filter pond, take a left and follow the track till the road. Go back down the grassy hill and follow the Opanuku Pipeline Track back to the car.
