Description
Start from right hand side of carpark. Head up Whatitiri Tk which takes you through bush and farm land and left onto Long Rd Tk. Follow this until you can veer off to the right onto Smyth Ridge Tk, take this to the end to Wainamu Junction. From here drop down Kautaika Tk, and get ready for a big climb out. Head across the farm at the top (watch the cattle), down Anawhata Rd and then down White Tk into Piha. Run left along Piha Beach Rd for about 400m and look for a walkway off to the right taking you to the road parallel and one back from the beach road. Up on this road turn and left and at the end join Maungaroa Lookout Tk, then on to Muangaroa Ridge Tk and then Quarry Rd Tk which takes you back up onto Anawhata Rd. Cross over onto Cutty Grass Tk for 800m and then turn left on Ridge Road Tk until you hit Simla Junction. Here turn right down Fence Line Tk all the way down to Auckland City Walkway and back to the Cascades carpark.

Features of interest
Waitakeres at their best. Great native bush trails, some big climbs, stream crossings, can be muddy, but not extreme Waitak mud. Amazing coastal views over Piha and from the look out.

Staying Safe
Moderate.
Well sign posted. However after crossing Anawhata Rd and hitting Cutty Grass Tk, keep an eye for Ridge Rd Tk. It is the first on your left about 800m in. From memory it wasn't sign posted. However it is the only track on the left so you can't go wrong.
Patchy.
Short-sleeved thermal top, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map.
If you want water head right into Piha there is a tap opposite the shops.
It can be quite muddy in the Waitakeres, but this loop is on some main tracks so it is generally ok.
