Pihanga can be accessed on the trails Tongariro River Trail and Lake Rotopounamu from our trail directory.
There is a partially marked trail from the gravel road end (near the Airstrip on the northern side) - along this route, there is also a cable to follow if the track signs are lost. A route up from Lake Rotopounamu may be possible, but expect dense bush and no trail!
