Otutu Hut is located on the mid-western boundary of the Kaweka Forest Park in the area known as the “Manson Country”. The Manson area was originally grazed by sheep in the 1860’s and the surrounding country-side subjected to large fires that devastated the native vegetation.

At 1280 metres, Otutu Hut is positioned at the edge of the beech forest adjacent to a large area of open tussock. Built in 1971, this hut’s original standard design was recently upgraded to include a large, covered veranda. Although relatively sheltered from the strong westerly winds common to this area, the hut can experience a wide range of climatic conditions including brief snowfalls during cold southerly weather and heavy winter frosts.

• Youth (5–17 years): $7.50 per night
• Child/Infant (0–4 years): free
