Salvation Hut was built sometime around the 1960s by a father-and-son team. It's tucked just inside the bush on the southern edge of a clearing. The hut is now quite dilapidated, and you'd probably think twice about spending the night inside!
The old bunks are badly rotten, although in early 2026 a group of volunteers gave the hut a bit of a tidy-up, removing a lot of old rubbish.

A fairly good 'non-official' track exists to the clearing and hut, starting where the two streams join right beside the Leyland O'Brien Tramway Track. After crossing the two streams so you're on the south side of the Nguamuwahine Stream, the track heads west until you hit the clearings.
There is one smaller clearing to travel through before the larger, and it's here, at the larger clearing, you head south into the bush for 50m (ish) to find the hut.
