The WILD Overnighter

About the Challenge:

With the right gear, night running can be fantastic. If you've got your eye on The WILD with its long hours and gnarly terrain you'll definitely want to get in some night time practice.

This WILD Overnighter challenge is designed to help motivate you to train through those long dark hours.

Points for this challenge are awarded based on each hour of the day (and night) you run through, with more points earnt in the deeper night hours.

Points Per Hour

• 7am to 7pm = 1 point per hour
• 8pm to 9pm = 2 points per hour
• 10pm - 3 points per hour
• 11pm - 4 points per hour
• 12am - 3am: 5 points per hour
• 4am: 4 points per hour
• 5am: 3 points per hour
• 6am: 2 points per hour

You earn points for running any part of that hour, for example, a thirty-minute run starting at 22:05 will earn you 3 points (10pm = 3 points)

A long overnight mission for example:

Run time: 18:45 - 05:10

Points awarded: 

18:00: 1
19:00: 1
20:00: 2
21:00: 2
22:00: 3
23:00: 4
00:00: 5
01:00: 5
02:00: 5
03:00: 5
04:00: 4
05:00: 3

Total: 40 points

Challenge Prizes:

Free The WILD Entry

Up for grabs is a free entry to the Further Faster 50-mile event at the inaugural running of The WILD on December 10th 2022*. The prize will be drawn as a spot prize. Each point you earn gives you one chance in this draw.

Instagram Photo Prize

We also have five The WILD trucker caps to give away during the challenge. Just post your epic run photos to Instagram account using #wildovernighter and tagging @wildthingsnz and @thewildepicmtruns. This is open to anyone; you don't have to be part of this challenge!

* NB the 50 mile event requires all entrants to meet the qualification criteria for the race. If you’re interested but have not yet received your Warrant of Wildness you can apply here. If you don’t qualify or would prefer to enter a shorter distance then your prize can be used for a free entry to the 20 mile run instead.
