The run starts from the carpark and heads down hill to the left past the public toilets. (You can also head off to the right and follow the track the other way)

Follow the Oruawharo River Trail signs to the first branch and turn right onto Clearfell Track. Follow to the next intersectiion and turn right towards Kauri Point Track, once there turn left and follow the loop out to the point for some great views then return to the Clearfell track intersection.

Follolw signs to Ti Tree point, out and back then head past the campsite to Solomons Bay on the Oruawharo River Trail. A pretty steady climb from there to the top of the old Pa then a grassy run around the outside of the pine forest back to the carpark.

There are a few other trails you could take to lengthen the run if you wanted to.

An old Pa and maori fields, beautiful views down the Kaipara Harbour. This is a working farm so please leave all gates as you find them.

Plenty of parking in the carpark.

Easy.

The trail markers can be a little hard to find in a few places but if you wander aimlessly for a few minutes you will find another.

Perfect throughout.

Short-sleeved thermal top, Windproof jacket, Whistle, First aid kit, Extra food for emergencies, Cellphone, Map

There is drinking water across from the campground gate - it is well marked.

Open paddocks, muddy and slippery and pretty windy as well.

The metal cattle stops at the gates can be very slippery when wet and there are a lot of them.

Trail Reviews

Beautiful coastal national park. A nice mix of terrain and some decent hills. Ran this on a cool overcast day, imagine it could be tough on a clear sunny day as not much shade. The paddocks are a little tricky due to the amount of animal traffic cutting it up and leaving holes all over the place. Views are stunning.

Here in late winter, nice route, though with the recent rain it was a complete mudfest. Gravel tracks make for easy running, some decent hills in there as well. Good if you are in the area, wouldn’t necessarily make the trip specifically for it.

Well signed posted, easy to run trails with very scenic views. Autumn is a nice time to visit if you want to catch some Autumn leaves colour. We did a little side trip to the Jetty which was sign posted, only 200mts off course. It’s well worth a look. We were there during high tide. Absolutely beautiful as the mangrove forest was submerged in the water. There are picnic tables dotted around if you want to bring lunch. It’s a very quiet place a bit out of the way but still in Auckland.

Great run on the fringe of Auckland. I didn’t know there was a campground here so must come back sometime to stay. Lots of gates!
